The calls have come from the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.
A plea has been issued by blood banks across the country for more supplies.
The Blood Transfusion Services needs 12,000 pints of blood before Christmas.
They say the usual donors have either been sick or disrupted from donating due to Storm Barra.
They've issued an appeal for O-negative, B-negative and A-negative blood types in particular.

Brian Doyle is acting head of operations and says the booster vaccine drive has added complications.
He says there's a seven-day deferral once you've had your booster which hasn't helped.
"There is obviously a lot of pressure on the system," Doyle said.
"There's a lot of Covid out there that's impacting on our donor availability."
"We need the donors who are feeling well, who hear from us when they get a text from us, who are eligible and available to donate to make that call to book themselves in."
