Health Workers Could Offer AZ To Younger People
Meanwhile, the Tánaiste says health officials could offer younger people the AstraZeneca vaccine.
So that's because there could be hundreds of thousands spare in the country.
It's reserved for those over 50 for the moment, due to concerns about blood clots in younger people.
Leo Varadkar says there's talks ongoing to change that recommendation.
That's happening as there's rising concerns over the Delta variant, which is responsible for about a fifth of new cases in Ireland.
The ECDC expects it to be the dominant variant in the EU by the end of August.
WHO Special Envoy on Covid, Dr David Nabarro says nations need to act quickly when it comes to variants:
"Variants are going to continue coming, that's part of life."
"We need to pick them up fast and move quickly if we see them building in a certain location."
He says, "we need to build our management of variants into what we've called our Covid Ready Strategy."
"That's going to be the pattern for the foreseeable future."
