Time to celebrate!

Re-turn, aka the people who run Ireland's Deposit Return Scheme, are celebrating one billion drink containers being returned this month since its launch.

That means the Irish public have returned enough plastic bottles and cans to circle the world 4.7 times! On top of that, drinks containers are now nearly 50% less prevalent in sites across the country surveyed by the IBAL in 2025.

But not only is the Irish public helping the environment by using the Re-turn scheme, but we're also improving society - €90,000 has been raised for the 'Return for Children' initiative. The donations are split between six charities to support different aspects of children's needs from essential services and advocacy for vulnerable children to support through serious illnesses.

Those brilliant charities are Barnardos Ireland, Barretstown, Childline by ISPCC, Jack & Jill, LauraLynn Children’s Hospice, and Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Additionally, over 2,200 schools, clubs and community organisations have registered with Return for their own fundraising activities.

Who is Re-turn you ask?

Tasked with achieving EU recycling targets before 2029, Re-turn is a not-for-profit organisation working to move us away from disposable culture and towards keeping valuable materials in the circular economy for as long as possible.

By returning drinks containers, you're contributing to a sustainable future and guaranteeing that materials are recycled into new drinks containers.
