Daniella Moyles’s brave and beautiful new memoir about the cult of busyness, burning out, and how slowing down helped her confront who she really was and rediscover her authentic self
In 2017 Daniella Moyles was leading a seemingly charmed life with a successful career as a model, radio presenter and influencer. On the outside, at the age of just 26, she seemed to have it all. So why wasn’t she happy?
Addicted to busyness and productivity Daniella was too busy to even notice the milestones she was achieving as she worked morning, noon and night in pursuit of what she saw as a success. Underneath the facade, there was an internal whisper of discontentment that eventually became a roar until she was dramatically forced to reassess her life.
By 2015 Daniella’s relationship was on its last legs, her mood perpetually bad, she was chronically exhausted and in a constant state of anxiety and unease that manifested in constant trips to the doctor with unexplained symptoms. Until one fateful day in the middle of a traffic jam on Dublin’s M50 when Daniella realised she could no longer go on this way. She quit her job and began to try and get to the source of her unhappiness.
Through therapy, yoga and meditation she began to confront her deepest fears, embarking on a journey back to the root cause of her simmering sense of anxiety, anger and hurt. She uncovered and began to deal with childhood wounds that no amount of outside validation could heal.
Realising that she was trying to fix a broken part of herself by chasing, love, approval, success and the million other ways we all seek fulfilment outside ourselves, Daniella committed to confronting who she really was. Gathering all her strength and resilience Daniella set off on a 2 year trip around the world solo, stepping up, starting over and relearning everything she thought she knew about herself.
Jump is a beautiful and brave memoir about growing up, burning out, bad decisions, reckless adventures, love and loss. It’s about what happens when you let go of everything you think you need and are confronted by who you really are, and how on the other side of that, lie true contentment, strength and authenticity.
