A new poll shows support for the government parties is falling

Sinn Féin has regained its position as the most popular political party in the country.

Support for the opposition party had fallen in the lead up to the general election last year.

The first Irish Times/Ipsos opinion poll since the election shows it now tops the list, at 26%, up two points.

That's followed by Fianna Fáil on 22%, while Fine Gael has fallen to 16%, which is the lowest it's been since 1994.

Support for the Social Democrats sits at 7%, while Labour is at 5%.

Micheál Martin is the most popular party leader at 45%, followed by Simon Harris at 42% and then Mary-Lou McDonald.

51% of voters say they were dissatisfied with the return of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to power, with 39% saying they were satisfied.

64% of voters polled say the coalition was wrong to make an agreement with Independent TD Michael Lowry when forming the government.
