One in five 16 year old boys who gamble struggle to control it.
A study has been carried out through a European school survey.
It's found 28% of 16 year old boys and 18% of 16 year old girls have gambled.
A Gambling Regulation Bill was introduced last year to combat the potential for addiction.
Psychology
Brendan Kelly, Professor of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin explains the attraction of gambling:
Professor Kelly says there is a "desire to win" but the biggest attraction is not being able to predict when.
"In pure psychological terms that is called variable interval positive reinforcement," he said.
"In other words, something positive something good happens, but you have no idea when."
