Last month was the second warmest March on record globally.
There was an average surface air temperature of 14.06°C, 0.65°C above the 1991-2020 average and 1.60°C above the pre-industrial level for March.
In Europe, it was the warmest March ever recorded.

The EU Copernicus Climate Change Service found it was also the 20th time in the last 21 months the average temperature was more than 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level.
Ireland and the UK experienced drier than average weather, while most of southern Europe saw wetter than average conditions.
Arctic sea ice was 6% below average, the lowest monthly extent for March on record.
It was also the fourth month in a row in which the Arctic sea ice extent has set a record low for the time of year.
Outside Europe, temperatures were most above average over large parts of the Arctic, in particular over the Canadian Archipelago and Baffin Bay.
They were also above average over the United States, Mexico, parts of Asia, and Australia.
