A young boy is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked by a dog in Wexford.
Emergency services attended the scene in Enniscorthy yesterday afternoon.
The Coast Guard were also called, and the boy was airlifted to hospital in Dublin.
The dog, believed to be a pitbull, was destroyed.
Amy Molloy is Public Affairs Correspondent for the Irish Independent.
She says the boy, who is believed to be 9 years old, was out playing with some friends in a housing estate in Enniscorthy when the attack happened.
Amy spoke with locals, who described it as "quite vicious" and "quite awful."
She says a number of neighbours tried to pull the dog off the boy.
