Students at the University of Limerick have avoided using the equivalent of 550,000 plastic bottles since the college put in new drinking water taps a year ago.
It's the equivalent of 13 shipping containers full of bottled water.
UL's student Environmental Society came up with the idea, and there are now 15 of the water fountains on campus.
The plan is to increase that number to 43, and ultimately cut out the use of seven million plastic bottles a year.
Chris Fogarty, energy manager at the University, says avoiding creating rubbish is far better than recycling it.
