This day three weeks it will be Christmas Eve, and as families prepare for the festive season, it has been revealed that traditional card games are set to dominate most households.
A new survey has found that Ireland’s ‘go to’ family games this Christmas are simple good old fashioned playing cards.
Research has found that 28% of families will revert to the old reliables to keep boredom at bay over the festive period.

The national survey of over 1,000 Irish adults carried out by Empathy Research for Lottoland saw traditional card games easily top the poll at 28%.
Their clear preference was Monopoly, which finish second overall, while classics like Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble also made an appearance.
Modern games such as The Chase, Jenga, Charades, Countdown, Labyrinth, Pictionary, Pie Face and 30 Seconds hardly registered at all with those surveyed across all ages and the four provinces.
Graham Ross, Country Manager for Lottoland in Ireland said:
“Whatever about chestnuts roasting on an open fire, our survey shows that playing cards dealt on a kitchen table remain the best way for Irish families to have festive fun."
"Whether it is kid-friendly games like Snap or more adult-orientated late night games of Poker, a good deck of playing cards is what Irish people reach for first when the novelty of eating, drinking and watching TV wears off during the yuletide celebrations."
