The number of people killed on Irish roads since records began is the equivalent of losing the population of Kilkenny City.
The 24,255 people who have lost their lives are being remembered as part of 'World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims'.
The Transport Minister says it's a chance to review our own behaviour on the roads and make changes to our driver behaviour.
Events are taking place across the country to mark the day.
Today we remember all those who have died on Irish roads, those who have been injured and the families affected by road traffic collisions. For a list of services happening around the country as part of #WDoR2018 click here https://t.co/ke7KRbRRMO. pic.twitter.com/43LeYIIVop
