Irish households and restaurants are dumping over 100 kilos of food per head of population every year, according to a new UN Report.
It found that 17% of all food produced around the world isn't eaten.
This report was used to track the progress towards targets to cut food waste by half by the year 2030.
However it found that twice as much food is left uneaten than initially hoped.

For Ireland, 55kg per head is dumped from households and 56 kilos from restaurants.
Mindy O'Brien from the environmental group voice says it confirms what we already know.
"Food waste if it were a country, it would be the third largest green house gas admitter."
Mindy says the methane food waste omits has a "big impact" on the climate.
She's urged households to consider meal plans so they don't buy too much food and is reminding people to make use of their freezer.
Globally, the UN estimates over 930 million tonnes of food waste was generated in 2019.
