Before a ball was kicked at Anfield last night, tensions were high as Liverpool supporters lined the streets to welcome Jurgen Klopp and their team.
It's a given that the home side will get an incredible reception when they approach the stadium, but not many would have expected the vile 'welcome' Manchester City got as they drove towards Anfield.
City coach Manel Estiarte took to Instagram to highlight the behaviour of Liverpool fans, with bottles, cans and flares hammering off the bus:
After a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, City boss Pep Guardiola said:
"Normally when the police know that is going to happen, they try to avoid it happening."
"The bus is destroyed. I didn't expect that a club as prestigious as Liverpool would do these kind of things."
Liverpool manger Jurgen Klopp apologised on behalf of his club before the match and the club itself released a statement:
"The club condemns in the strongest possible terms the scenes which preceded our Champions League quarter-final, which resulted in damage being inflicted on the Manchester City team bus during their arrival at Anfield."
"We apologise unreservedly to Pep Guardiola, his players, staff and officials caught up in the incident."
"The behaviour of a number of individuals was completely unacceptable and the club will cooperate fully with the authorities to identify those responsible."
