It comes as Covid-19 case numbers are at almost two-month highs.

There are concerns covid numbers could surge again next week after St Patrick's Day.

Over a thousand people in Irish hospitals now have the virus.

The figure stands at 1,042 - which is the highest number recorded since January 12th.

It's now brought calls from politicians for the government to revise facemask laws.

One of those is Cork Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer.

He says revising facemask rules could help the vulnerable and the elderly heading into a busy period.

"Recognising that the level of illness and sickness for the general population from this variant is not as high," he said.

"There are those who are immunosuppressed or those who are elderly."

"It would make sense that if we looked and reviewed the whole mask-wearing argument.."

"..and suggest from government it should be stronger than it is at the moment."
