Seachtain na Gaeilge 2019 officially started this morning, and will run until St. Patrick's Day.
For those not aware of what is actually is, Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish language festival, which is the biggest celebration of our native language and culture, both at home at abroad.
The festival offers everyone an opportunity to enjoy Irish, native speakers, learners and a few words one by one.
According to Conradh na Gaeilge, 41% of the population are able to speak Irish, and only 1.8% speak Irish every day.
Getting people involved is key to the success of Seachtain na Gaeilge, so the group behind it - Conradh na Gaeilge - have ambassadors such as Dublin footballer Michael Darragh MacAuley, radio presenter Tracy Clifford, and singer Sibéal Ní Chasaide to promote the language to a wider audience.
They want the Irish public to be proud of their Irishness and their culture.
Some might be wondering as to why it's called Seachtain (which means week in Irish) na Gaeilge when in fact the event runs for 17 days.
Well it started back in 1902, and since then became recoginsed the world over, and as Irish grew from strength to strength, the festival period grew from one week to a fortnight.
They've kept the name though because people recognise what it is straight away.
Depsite being an international event at its core, Seachtain na Gaeilge is a community festival - and people are being encouraged to organise and partake in events over the next fortnight.
