500 others will also be recruited during the construction phase of a major new investment.
The firm is spending 400 million euros on its high-tech factory which will manufacture injectable medicines.
Senior Vice President with Eli Lilly, Darin Moody, says Limerick was chosen ahead of other global locations.
Eli Lilly and Company is an American pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Indianapolis and offices in 18 countries.

The company was founded in 1876 by, and named after, Colonel Eli Lilly, a pharmaceutical chemist and veteran of the American Civil War.
