Almost 73,000 students have applied for third level courses this year, according to the CAO.
However, that number is actually a dip from the one recorded last year when 76,000 people applied.
The applications deadline was at 5.15 this evening.
However, the CAO says there is a late application facility which opens on March 5th and closes on May 1st.
