The Making Of A Detective,Created By The Irish Sun Features Five Of Ireland’s Most Notorious Murder Cases
The Irish Sun, Ireland’s bestselling daily tabloid newspaper, has announced a new Irish true crime podcast called The Making Of A Detective.
The series tells the story of five of Ireland’s most notorious murder cases, told through the lens of the man who once solved them Irish Detective Pat Marry.
Each episode features Pat Marry giving a step-by-step account of how justice was ultimately served in each case, interspersed with interviews with the victims’ family, former colleagues of Pat Marry and Stephen Breen, Crime Editor of The Irish Sun.
The dramatic details of each case are revealed, along with an insight into the skills that went into solving each case and how each one shaped Pat into one of Ireland's greatest detectives.
The cases featured are:
The murder of Rachel Callaly by her husband Joe O'Reilly.
This episode includes an interview with Rachel’s brother Paul who reveals his traumatic account of the investigation.
The 2001 murder of Mary Gough by her husband Colin Whelan.
We hear how Whelan skipped bail and faked his own suicide before being discovered on the Spanish island of Majorca in 2004.
The murder of Jaqueline Quinn McDonagh by her husband Michael McDonagh, who also starred in Knuckle, the infamous bare-knuckle boxing documentary in 2011.
The death of Niall Dorr who was kicked to death in an unprovoked violent attack by Dougie Ward in 2010.
Aaron Brady's historic 2020 capital murder conviction for the shooting of Garda Adrian Donohoe, a colleague and friend of Pat Marry.
This episode includes interviews with NYPD officers who were tasked with tracking Brady down in New York.
The Making Of A Detective premiers on Thursday, November 11th with four episodes about the Rachel Callaly case.
The remaining episodes will then be released on a weekly basis and will be available on all popular podcast platforms.
The series is presented, narrated and produced by Ian Doyle, an experienced podcast creator for UrbanMedia and the Wireless Radio Group.
His previous work includes Grief Encounters, a deeply moving podcast series about Irish bereavement.
His work on The Making Of A Detective began in July 2021and is his first foray into the booming True-Crime genre.
