New COVID-19 variant discovered in South Africa, where Munster are currently based
Munster Rugby may be forced to quarantine upon their return from South Africa, according to the Justice Minister.
The team is currently in the country ahead of two United Rugby Championship matches.
However, a new variant has been discovered in South Africa, as well as Botswana and Hong Kong.
It has prompted the UK to introduce a flight ban from six countries in Southern Africa, with the European Commission expected to follow.
The @EU_Commission will propose, in close coordination with Member States, to activate the emergency brake to stop air travel from the southern African region due to the variant of concern B.1.1.529.

This morning, Justice Minister Helen McEntee didn't rule out the possibility of the squad having to quarantine when they return:
"Yes, that is a possibility," she said.
"When something like this happens, we've seen how quickly these variants have travelled and the implications they've had."
The Minister added that no decisions have been made and that the situation is evolving quickly.
Munster, who are due to play the Vodacom Bulls this weekend, say they are working with officials.
