Gardai are continuing to question a man in his 60s after an elderly woman was killed in an assault in North Dublin.
The elderly victim of this assault has been described as a "lovely lady".
She was attacked at her home last night– which is located at a cul de sac in the quiet housing estate.
Gardai arrived at the scene at around at 8 and found her body.
A man in his 60s and known to her was arrested at the scene and brought to Clontarf Garda Station.
"It's Shocking... Something You Don't Expect..."
This man says residents in the quiet housing are very upset at what’s happened.
"I just heard it this morning there on the news."
"So was just calling into my son and he was telling me, he was looking it up on the phone."
"He just lives around the back you know?"
"But it's shocking, something you don't expect anywhere."
Gardai are following a definite line of inquiry into the death of the elderly woman.
So they aren’t looking for anyone else as part of the investigation.
