Local authorities may turn to drones soon, to keep an eye on places where illegal dumping is prevalent.
It would require GDPR compliant technology.
However, Councils nationwide could use the flying cameras, under some new legislation.
The Irish Council for Civil Liberties has expressed concerns about the proposals.
It says the drones pose 'significant dangers' to people's privacy.
The Problem Is Costing Millions
Labour Senator Mark Wall says local authorities are spending millions, cleaning up the mess left behind by illegal dumpers.
He says it's about €90m per year across all 31 local authorities.
"Some counties are spending up to three million in relation to cleanup costs from illegal dumping."
