Limerick Hurler Shane Dowling has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling at only 27 years old.
His announcement was posted to his Instagram this morning.
"It is with deep heartbreak that I have to announce my retirement from inter-county hurling today. This is a decision that I have struggled to accept, and may still struggle to accept over the coming years, given its premature nature."
Dowling has made the decision due to complications with his knee.
He has a condition called osteochondroma, which is an overgrowth of cartilage and bone in the knee area.
"After three surgeries on my knee in as many years, and with the possibility of another, my knee can no longer support the demands of inter-county hurling."
