Six people have survived after the lift they were in fell 84 floors in Chicago.
They plummeted from the 95th to the 11th floor at a skyscraper in the US city on Friday after one of the cables controlling the lift broke.
Some of those in the lift, which included a pregnant woman, say they thought they were going to die but, the group was freed after being trapped for 3 hours.
The incident took place at 875 North Michigan Avenue building, formerly known as the John Hancock Center, which is the city's fourth-tallest building.
Tourist Jaime Montemayor, who was one of the people trapped said: “We were going down, and then I felt that we were falling down, and then I heard a noise: clack clack clack clack” - the sound of getting trapped in a lift.”
His wife told the Chicago Tribune, “I knew something wasn’t okay" and she added that she noticed dust particles entering the lift.
None of the people involved had to go to hospital, and the lift, as well as two others, will be closed until repairs are made and officials figure out what happened.
