Non-essential retailers will stay open tomorrow as other businesses are forced to shut their doors.
However January sales will be smaller and will take place in a much more controlled fashion.
"No sales events should take place" says Leo Varadkar asking people and retailers to be responsible and not rush to the shops in January

January Sales To Be Deferred
In just over 24 hours restaurants, gastropubs, and hairdressers will close their doors due to Level 5 restrictions.
Unlike the other two lockdowns, non-essential retail will stay open but January sales have been deferred.
Managing Director of Retail Excellence Ireland Duncan Graham says the sector has been given clarity on what that will mean:
"We'll have some discounts in stores that have been apparent in the run up to Christmas and beyond."
"But I don't think we're going to see perhaps the heavy discounting in the early stages that we've seen in the past."
"I don't think we're going to see retailers sticking large sale banners in the windows."
Dublin Shoppers: "Sales Don't Bother Me"
But there were mixed opinions on January sales among these shoppers in Dublin.
One man told us, "Closed for Christmas so the only thing I'll do in January is I'll bring them back if they don't fit me."
"Nah the sales don't bother me that much."
While another person said, "Treats for yourself kinda thing, especially after a busy December."
"Or if you're feeling a bit blue maybe in January, you'd go pick up something nice for yourself."
So called non essential shopping can continue much the same as we’ve experienced since early December.
