Ireland have been beaten.

Ireland have been beaten by England in the opening round of the Six Nations Championship to finish 32-20.

Ireland won't be winning the Grand Slam and Triple Crown this year after they lost 32-20 to England in the opening round of the Six Nations Championship at Landsdowne Road.

The English came with a plan and a huge amount of physicality and they were 17-10 to the good at half time following tries by Jonny May and Elliot Daly, in between a Cian Healy touchdown.

England's kicking was also good, but Ireland reduced the gap to 4 points with a Johnny Sexton penalty with 15 minutes to go.

Centre Henry Slade broke away for a try on 66 minutes to make it 22-13 to England and the floodgates then opened, as Owen Farrell kicked a penalty and Slade intercepted a Sexton pass to score his second try.

John Cooney scored a late try for Ireland, but it was only a consolation and after a magnificent 2018, Ireland's World Cup year has started with a deserved defeat.
