Higher Education Minister, Simon Harris, has vowed to address the issue of casual employment in universities nationwide.
Up to two-thirds of lecturing staff in some higher education institutions are not full-time or permanent.
Minister Simon Harris was speaking at the Irish Federation of University Teachers' annual conference, and promised to work toward resolving this issue:
"We have collated data from the sector on the numbers of occasional hourly-paid administrative teaching and support staff and I'm now keen to address the issue, and I know that my department is engaging with the HEA to move this forward."
