Helen McEntee finished work for six months on Tuesday
The Justice Minister Helen McEntee has given birth to a baby boy.
Ms McEntee became the first sitting government minister to take maternity leave in the history of the State when she finished work on Tuesday.
She gave up her position as Justice Minister temporarily, but will remain a member of the Cabinet without a portfolio.
She will be reappointed as Justice Minister when she returns on November 1st.
Helen McEntee's pregnancy announcement started a wider conversation about maternity leave for local and national politicians.
She and her husband Paul welcomed a baby boy last night - the couple's first child together.
