Legislation to ban ticket touting will benefit people who want to go to live events, according to a former TD.
The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar brought a bill before Cabinet this morning.
It would impose heavy fines or even prison sentences for anyone convicted.
That's aimed at sports matches, concerts or festivals with a capacity of more than 1,000 people.
Ticket Touts Are "Unfair" On Ordinary People
Former Fine Gael TD Noel Rock first introduced legislation in 2017.
He says it's to protect those interested in going to live events:
"We want to make sure people aren't parting with their hard earned money."
"By having to pay multiple times the face value to see their favourite musicians or teams."
He says people should be getting access to events in a fair way, at face value.
