The Government is considering extending the weeks between the Pfizer vaccine to get more people vaccinated.

It’s one of a number of measures being considered following setbacks to the rollout.

The three Government party leaders met with senior health officials this morning.

There, they discussed how to keep our vaccine rollout programme on track.

Concerns have been flagged with a small number of rare blood clots.

That's with the AstraZeneca and the Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

The Health Minister is hoping hoping the pause in the one shot Johnson vaccine will be lifted shortly.

Stephen Donnelly says everything is being done to try and keep the vaccine rollout targets.

"We've been working flat out since we got the news, that recommendation from NIAC on Astra Zeneca."

"Then obviously we've had this double whammy with Johnson and Johnson."

He says the task force, the Department of Health and the HSE have been working late into last night and again this morning.

They're working to "re-profile" the plan as soon as possible.

Vaccine Portal To Open To 65-69 Year Olds

The AstraZeneca vaccine will now be predominantly offered here to people in their 60s.

While tomorrow - an online registration system will open for people aged 65 to 69 to register for their injection and they should get it soon after that.

It comes amid reports Denmark is to stop using AstraZeneca altogether .

Meanwhile the EU won’t renew its contract with the company or Johnson and Johnson when supplies expire.

A revised and reprofiled vaccine plan for Ireland should be announced in the next few days.
