Gardaí have warned Sky Ireland about a threat to staff over the broadcast of a Kinahan-organised boxing match.

The Sunday World reports the threats are from a rival crime gang.

So they're making an effort to derail Kinahan's efforts to portray himself as a boxing promoter.

Also the 46-year-old Dublin man has been named in the High Court as a senior figure in the Kinahan organised crime gang.

Varadkar "taken aback" By Fury Video

Firstly Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said broadcasters and sporting groups should have "nothing to do" with the match.

So on Thursday, Varadkar said he was surprised by Tyson Fury's video.

"I was rather taken aback to see Tyson Fury's video the other day, just dropping in that name that you [TD Alan Kelly] mentioned."

"As if this was not somebody who has a chequered history in this state or elsewhere."

"While I can't comment on any particular Garda operation."

"I can certainly assure you that there has been contact between the Department of Foreign Affairs and authorities in the United Arab Emirates."

Tallant: Kinahan Doesn't Need This Attention

Meanwhile Sunday World Crime Correspondent Nicola Tallant says this high-level attention is the last thing he needs.

"So I think the last thing he ever dreamed of was that Leo Varadkar was going to hit him with a left hook."

"This thing has now gone political."

"For years the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau have been working away, building a case on Daniel Kinahan."

"Also, he's wanted in this country, he's wanted in the UK."

"Police forces of Europe have been working together, putting together the evidence against him."
