Gardaí in Galway claim they raised concerns about pubs serving alcohol outside as early as May 7th.
Officers confirmed that licensed premises are not legally allowed to serve alcoholic drinks in outdoor dining areas set up due to covid-19 restrictions.
However Justice Minister Heather Humphreys says the force will use discretion when dealing with the temporary setups.
I have been in regular contact with the Garda Commissioner on the issue of outdoor dining and how best An Garda Síochána will work to facilitate us all enjoying an outdoor summer. We spoke again this morning.

Bylaws Do Not Allow Alcohol - Garda Chief Supt
Chief Superintendent Tom Curley says he's not trying to be a killjoy:
He says he raised the issue as early as May 7th.
Additionally, Tom says this was the subject of a discussion with his Assistant Commissioner and the City Manager.
"Where I'm sitting, the actual section of the bylaws with the tables and chairs or seating outside, does not cover the consumption of alcohol."
"I'm not and I never have been a killjoy in relation to Galway or promoting the City."
"But I have a duty to uphold the law."
