Private Seán Rooney has been remembered as a “national hero” at his funeral in Co Louth this morning.
Hundreds of mourners attended the mass for the 24 year old peacekeeper, who was killed in Lebanon last Wednesday night.
His mam, Natasha McCloskey:
"He was the most beautiful baby, the most gorgeous boy and the most handsome man you'll ever meet."
"But that is a fraction of what was on the inside."
"I will love you forever son, and I cannot wait to be re-united with you in heaven."
The funeral took place at the Holy Family Church in Dundalk this morning.
His coffin, draped in the tri colour and the UN flag was carried in by family members, led by a single bagpipe player.
Hundreds of family and friends heard how he was a family man and a loving fiance to Holly McConalogue.
Fr Derek Ryan read a statement on behalf of Holly to the congregation.
"Seán always encouraged me in my work and my studies, and everything in life."
"He believed I could do anything, he made me feel like I could do anything."
Pte Rooney grew up in Louth and later moved to Newtown Cunningham, Donegal - where he will be laid to rest this afternoon.
