Football cancelled

All professional football in England, Scotland and Wales has been suspended.

It will be in effect until at least the 3rd of April because of coronavirus.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting.

It came after a number of clubs said players and officials were self-isolating because they've either caught it - or think they have it.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have both tested positive for Covid-19.

Everton has confirmed its entire first-team squad and coaching staff are undertaking a period of self-isolation on medical advice.

It's after one of their players reported symptoms consistent with coronavirus.

Everton, who sit twelfth in the table as things stand, announced their precautionary measure via a statement on the club's official website.

Here at home, the FAI has also announced it is to postpone all activity until March 29th.

It says the decision will be monitored on an ongoing basis.

In a statement the FAI says:

"The Football Association of Ireland announces the cessation of all football under its jurisdiction until March 29."

"The FAI made this decision after a meeting in Dublin today with Government, the Department of Health and stakeholders from other national sporting bodies."
