Wildfires at Killarney National Park in Co. Kerry are starting to come under control.
Firefighters are battling the blazes for the third day.
The Irish Air Corps has dropped almost 90,000 litres of water on the gorse fires.
They broke out on Friday night.
The Irish Wildlife Trust is calling for a full investigation into the fire.
Which has led to the destruction of 2,000 hectares of woodland.
Devastating to see the damage caused by fire at Killarney National Park.
Thank you to all involved in the incredible concerted effort to control the blaze - park staff, Kerry Fire Service and council workers, Gardai, Civil Defence, Air Corps and many others. pic.twitter.com/CEWZtfmHr7— Micheál Martin (@MichealMartinTD) April 24, 2021
Firefighters Are Beginning To Get It Under Control
Malcolm Noonan's the Minister of State at the Department of Heritage.
He hopes the fires will be fully extinguished today:
"Things are beginning to come under control, with great thanks to the partners."
He says "everyone has been just fantastic."
Malcolm believes today will be the day the teams can get the fires under control.
That's, "after three days of intense burning."
