Growing number of eating disorders in Ireland
First of all Irish children as young as 10 are developing eating disorders.
Figures released as part of Eating Disorder Awareness Week show that 1,800 people are diagnosed in Ireland every year.
Almost 190,000 Irish people will suffer from an eating disorder at one point in their lives.
Also out of the 1,800 new cases each year the age range is between 10 and 49.
Support service Bodywhys estimates another figure that 10% of people who reach out to them for help are pre-teen.
Around a third of people who suffer from anorexia, bulimia or a binge eating disorder may never recover.
Anyone who feels they may need support can contact the Bodywhys helpline on 1890 200 444.
