Dublin Gangland Criminal Jailed For 21 Years In The UK

The UK head of the Kinahan crime group has been jailed for 21 years.

54 year old Thomas Kavanagh, originally from Dublin, was sentenced in Britain for orchestrating the importation of multi-million euro drug shipments.

Two other men, also from Dublin, were also sentenced today.

54 year old Thomas Kavanagh, of Tamworth in Staffordshire is originally from Dublin.

He was described as the head of the organisation that imported cocaine and cannabis worth 35 million euro into the UK.

He was sentenced to 21 years in prison at Ipswich Crown Court today.

Other Men

Dublin born 39 year old Gary Vickery of Solihull was sentenced to 20 years.

43-year-old Daniel Canning also originally from Dublin with an address in Solihull, was jailed for 19 years and 6 months.

The UK's National Crime Agency's Deputy Director of Investigations Matt Horne described Kavanagh as a high ranking member of the Kinahan cartel and their main man in the UK.

He also said the investigation involved the co-operation of Gardai and they are determined to work together to target criminal communities on both sides of the Irish Sea.
