There have been a further 1,386 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the country today.

The highest daily figure in nearly six months.

106 patients are in hospital with the virus - the highest in almost two months - with 22 in intensive care.

The deputy chief medical officer is criticising the amount of false information online about Covid vaccines.

Dr. Ronan Glynn says this has undermined vaccination in many countries and is encouraging people to get their information from trusted sources.

Indoor dining is set to reopen on Monday.

New guidelines have been agreed upon between the Government and industry representatives.

People will have to present proof of vaccination or recovery, separate ID, and provide contact tracing details.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said there is a risk in re-opening - but believes the Delta wave can be managed.

"Bear in mind we've between eight and nine-hundred more beds now in our hospital system now, than we had before the pandemic, that's not to say the hospitals won't come under pressure, they will. But we believe it's one we can manage and therefore we won't have to reimpose restrictions," The Tánaiste said.
