Conor McGregor issued the apology overnight

Conor McGregor has apologised for punching a man in a Dublin pub.

The UFC star admitted to the conduct, which happened back in April.

He said he was mortified by the incident after footage emerged online, which eventually went viral last week.

He spoke to ESPN's Ariel Helwani about the incident last night:

Gardai say they are investigating the incident, and McGregor says he's willing to accept whatever punishment is given to him.

He described his behaviour on the night in question as 'unacceptable' and in addition, said he was 'mortified'.

When asked about the reaction from the fans, he said he was 'hurt' because he knows he 'let them down'.

McGregor also admitted that he needs to 'lead by example' after being questioned on another incident in Florida, where he was involved in another argument with a fan.
