A New EU Drug Report Shows Cannabis Is The Most Common Used Drug In Ireland

Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit drug in Ireland, according to a major new drug report.

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction has released it's annual report.

Irish figures generally in line with Europe.

Today's report also found that cannabis is the most common illegal drug used in Ireland followed by ecstasy and cocaine.

The European Drug Report for 2019 also found that 3 in 10 adults in Ireland have taken an illicit drug in their lifetime.

Around 96 million adults in the EU have tried an illicit drug in their lifetime

Cocaine seizures are at record levels with over 104 thousand reported in 2017 amounting to over 140 tonnes of the drug.

Drug use in Ireland and Europe is most common among males and younger age groups.
