A new campaign has been launched to give mental health advice to young people ahead of exams.

The 'Mind Monsters' campaign aims to help people through tough times, and give them support on how to look after their mental health.

The campaign highlights four beneficial measures that can be taken in the run up to exams:

  • take regular study breaks
  • get enough sleep
  • spending less time on devices
  • sharing a problem with someone you trust

Jim Ryan, HSE Assistant National Director for Mental Health Operations said:

"Developing this campaign was a great opportunity to collaborate with partner organisations as well as young people themselves on how best to address some of the issues they are facing today like exams or relationship difficulties."

Margie Roe, Head of Childline, ISPCC, added, "over 310,000 children and young people across Ireland contact Childline every year to talk about all sorts of issues which may be on their minds."

"They may be hurt, upset, afraid, or may simply wish to have someone with whom to chat about their day."

"There is no issue too big or too small to talk about with Childline."

The Mind Monster campaign was developed to encourage young people mind their mental health and to seek support and services.

In partnership with the ISPCC and SpunOut.ie, the HSE are making printed materials available and can be ordered directly from Healthpromotion.ie.

This campaign forms part of the HSE's efforts to deliver on commitments under Connecting for Life, the national suicide prevention strategy.
