There's calls for social media companies to demand potential users give their PPS numbers before they sign up.
The idea is to allow companies to ensure that the likes of Facebook and Instagram know the users are providing the correct age.
The calls come after a Dublin man was found guilty of using the likes of Snapchat and Instagram to convince under-age girls to send him pornographic images.
However the CEO of Cyber Safe Ireland doesn't think we should be handing over more personal data to the companies.
Alex Cooney says: "I just think we need to think about how much data we are giving away.
"We give an awful lot away without thinking about it. We also have to think 'is this going to be the thing that solves the problem?'
"No, I think what we need to be doing is educating children."
