“I am delighted to welcome the direct confirmation from Education Minister Norma Foley TD and her Department that Mungret Community College has been Approved to Proceed to Tender for a building contractor to construct their new 1000 pupil School building.

This vital school project under the Department’s Large Scale Capital Programme also includes a 2 x 552m2 Special Education Classroom Base and will be located on a 10 acre site at Mungret Park.

This is a fantastic achievement for all in Mungret Community College this new school building will have such a major impact on the, pupils school staff and parents as well as the wider Mungret,Raheen and Dooradoyle area.

I have been and will continue to work with all at Mungret Community College to progress the construction of this new 1000 pupil school building as quickly as possible.

Specifically, I wish to commend the great work of Mungret College School principal Liam O'Mahoney, Teachers, Staff, Chair of the Board, Limerick Mayor Councillor Daniel Butler, fellow Board members ,Chief Executive of LCETB George O'Callaghan and LCETB Head of Capital & Procurement, Mr Eamon Murphy on their great work here to progress this School Building Project to the tender stage.

Since opening its doors in temporary accommodation at the old Mungret College in August 2017, Mungret Community College under principal Liam O'Mahoney has been a great success, making a significant contribution to second-level education here in Limerick.

In the interests of fast-tracking this much needed school project, the Department of Education agreed to devolve the project of this new school building to the locally based Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board(LCETB), who are also the School Patron.

Locally based, the LCETB brings a wealth of expertise and experience in delivering School building projects in Limerick and Clare.
