Homelessness, mental health issues and fake news are dominating the entries for this year's BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition.
12 hundred secondary school students have entered this year’s competition.
The winner will be announced on Friday and they’ll scoop 7,500 euro.
The event will be officially opened this afternoon by President Michael D Higgins at the RDS, and while judging will get underway today it will be tomorrow before the public can view the 550-plus projects on display.
Of those competing, 60 percent are female.
