Good news for Apple users in Ireland, you can now pay for stuff using your iPhone or iWatch.
Apple Pay will this morning launch in Ireland after test trials in the United States and the United Kingdom which saw a 79 per-cent satisfaction rate among users.
It will work the same way as tapping your card on a contactless machine and there is no additional charge to using this option.
A number of Irish retailers have already signed up offer the Apple Pay service including Supervalu, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Aldi, Centra, Marks and Spencers, Insomnia, Boots and Harvey Norman.
While service stations Applegreen and Amber Oil will be the first of their kind to offer the payment method.
However, the facility is only open to Ulster Bank and KBC Bank customers.
Eddie Dillon, Director of Innovation at KBC Bank Ireland, said Apple Pay will make banking and shopping more convenient for KBC customers and is part of the evolution of KBC into a digital-first customer-centric bank.
While, speaking about the introduction of Apple Pay Ulster Bank’s Director of Customer Experience and Products Maeve McMahon said “Customer-centric innovation is really important to Ulster Bank, and Apple Pay will make mobile payments even easier for our customers. They will be able to pay for goods and services anywhere contactless payments are accepted, using their iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch. We know from talking to them that they’re really excited about this announcement and that it’s an important part of our drive to be the number one bank for customer service, trust and advocacy.”
