Ana Kriegel died in May last year

The two boys who murdered Kildare schoolgirl Ana Kriegel are due back in court today for their sentence hearing.

They were convicted in June of her murder, and one of them was also found guilty of aggravated sexual assault.

The boys were just 13-years-old when they murdered Ana Kriegel in a derelict farmhouse in Lucan on May 14th last year.

They’re both now 14, and because they're still considered children in the eyes of the law, their identities have been, and always will be, protected.

Christened Boy A and Boy B by the media, their trial heard Boy B lured Ana from her home in Leixlip, knowing what was in store for her in Lucan.

The case against him was entirely circumstantial, and essentially built on what he himself told Gardaí.

An overwhelming amount of forensic evidence against his co-accused led to him being charged and ultimately convicted.

Both have been held at Oberstown Detention Centre since June, but will return to court today for their sentence hearing.

Various reports will be opened for the judge to assist him in constructing appropriate sentences.

Ana’s parents Geraldine and Patrick will also be given an opportunity to address the court if they wish.

The hearing is due to take a full day, with sentences likely to be handed down at a later date.
