Abortion services are being provided across the country from today.
The Health Minister Simon Harris says today is a momentous day.
Women can now access an abortion here under specific circumstances, through GPs, family planning services, in maternity units and hospitals.
Minister Harris says a helpline is available where a woman can get advice on all of her options, including abortion services.
"We're talking about a situation whereby you can have consultation with your doctor who can inform you of all of your options.
He added, "we're talking about many many locations around the country where you will be able to access services. This is a very significant day for women's healthcare."
