18 to 34-year-olds will be able to get vaccinated in pharmacies from Monday.

The official advice from NIAC is: under '50s should get an mRNA vaccine such as Pfizer where possible.

However, 18 to 34-year-olds who want an earlier vaccination will be able to get the one-shot Johnson and Johnson in a local pharmacy.

It comes as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer says at least 80% of the population will need to be vaccinated before the country can fully reopen.

Dr. Ronan Glynn says the news doesn't change the recommendation to delay indoor dining.

"The reality unfortunately is that vaccination will not materially impact the path that we're on for July and August."

"That recommendation would not have made any material change to what we recommended earlier this week."

IPU Expects "Tremendous" Uptake

Darragh O'Loughlin, from the Irish Pharmacy Union, believes many will opt to get the one-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

"Judging by the number of people who've made inquiries in pharmacies about when they can get vaccinated.

"I would say there'd be a tremendous uptake among young people."
