Olivia, who played Sandy in the movie, defended, "I mean, this movie was made in the 1970s about the 1950s."

"It was a stage play, it's a musical, it's fun."

"It's a fun movie musical not to be taken so seriously," she insisted.

"I think everyone's taking everything so seriously," Olivia continued.

"We need to relax a little bit and just enjoy things for what they are."

"I didn't see it like that at all, I think it's a fun movie that entertains people."

Grease

The musical came out in 1978 and became a cult classic.

It was the biggest box office hit that year and is still one of the highest grossing musicals of all time.

The original film starred the iconic John Travolta as Danny and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy.

While vacationing in Australia, Danny and Sandy embark on a summer romance.

When they part ways, they never expect to see each other again.

But he gets a shock when he finds out she has enrolled at Rydell High, where he goes to school.

No further comment has been made regarding the criticism.
