James Gunn reveals his version of Velma was originally gay
Screenwriter James Gunn has revealed his version of Velma in the 2002 live action Scooby-Doo was originally gay.
However, it seems the studio weren't into the idea at all.
James shared the revelation on Twitter after a fan asked him to make their, 'live-action lesbian Velma dreams come true.'
He responded, 'I tried! In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script.'
'But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).'

Fans have been pleading with him to make a third Scooby-Doo, 'We deserved a #ScoobyDoo3 i don’t care what anyone says.'
James responded, 'With the original cast?'
'That would be one incredibly long life-span for a Great Dane.'

Scooby-Doo
The live action Scooby-Doo movie dropped in 2002.
Matthew Lillard played Shaggy, Freddie Prinze Jr. played Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar played Daphne and Linda Cardellini played Velma.
The first movie follows the gang as they're brought to an island resort to investigate strange activities.
A sequel was released in 2004 and it saw the gang attempt to save Coolsville from an attack.
Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, a third film was cancelled after the sequel received negative reviews.
According to NBC News, it under-performed at the box office, grossing $90 million less than the original film.
