The James Bond movie franchise is getting a revamp and its new direction will see the secret agent go back in time.

In February, it was announced that Amazon MGM had taken full creative control of the Bond franchise and sources have said they intend to start the story all over again.

The last time viewers saw the OO7 agent, he was played by Daniel Craig and met his demise at the end of the 2021 film No Time To Die.

Since then, there's been speculation galore as to who would take over the rains from Daniel - no such news as of yet - but the films' new owners have decided the next one will be set in the 1950s or 60s.

The role hasn't been filed since Daniel Craig stepped away in 2021

Emulating the time in which author Ian Fleming first penned the books, the casting will also reflect the time shift, meaning creators will be searching for a 20-something actor, the franchise's youngest ever Bond.

Despite a lot of change, insiders have revealed the main character will remain a man and will still be British or from the Commonwealth.

Abuzz with rumours, even the stars themselves are getting involved with guessing. Line of Duty star Daniel Mays said on the We’re Not Getting Any Younger podcast: “I heard a rumour they’re going to cast someone very young and go back to the origins.

Amazon's plans include time travelling back the 1950s and 60s - the era of Ian Flemings books

“They’re going to have all the retro cars and that sort of stuff — and start again. I think that would be kind of cool.”

Now in the running, according to rumours, is SpiderMan's Tom Holland, One Day's Leo Woodall, Sex Education's Connor Swindells, After's Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Heartstopper's Kit Connor.

Normal People star and Irishman Paul Mescal is also said to be in with a chance of the leading role as well as Saltburn’s Jacob Elordi.
